The disease of addiction, it starts with the big lie that allows addicts to use again despite all the negative consequences that have happened as a result of using, this is centered in the mind. This is called the mental obsession, or the disease of the mind. Then the substance abuser puts the chemicals into their body and they lose the power of choice. This is called the phenomenon of craving, or allergy, or allergy defined, abnormal reaction. This is the disease of the body. Addiction in its simplest term is a living and a thinking problem, or lack of power. Drugs and alcohol are but a symptom of the problem. The disease of the mind coupled with the disease of the body then leads to hopelessness, or a malady of the spirit.
The problem defines the solution, so the solution must be power.
The substance abuser needs to change the way that they think and live. An individual’s perceptions and perspectives are their reality! The new definition of addiction is a chronic brain disorder; however, we must not overlook the spiritual or physical aspects of the disease or a complete and long-lasting healing will never take place Substance abusers and those addicted to process addictions need an entire psychic change; the substance abuser and process addict need to be reborn.
We Were Reborn
In the Basic Text of Alcoholics Anonymous in the Chapter titled, How it Works, it says, “As we felt a new power flow in, as we enjoyed peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of His presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter. We were reborn.”
