Why should anyone help someone else, especially a stranger? Shouldn’t every person be responsible for themselves? Why should anyone have to part with their hard earned money? Do you ever think about your belief systems when it comes to charity? Why are some of us willing to go “All in” to help others? Can you enjoy your oversized, stuffed lobster and your thirty-two ounce steak at a fancy restaurant, while thousands are starving right here in America? These are tough questions!
Twenty years ago my parents and I were living a nice middle class life. My dear, late mother was an Ordained Reverend, as am I. We both had the gift, or curse of being able to feel other people’s pain. It was nothing that either of us asked for, it just happened. You see, we both had a calling. I tried my best to ignore it for a while, but in the long run, when God wants you, He will get your attention. You cannot serve two Masters!
We decided, to go “All in.” We took all that we had and put it into a non-profit ministry in The Poconos of Pennsylvania. We purchased a eight acre property in the name of a non-profit ministry. That means, we don’t own it, we can’t sell it for personal gain. We can never get our funds back, they were freely given. “You can comfort where you have been comforted.” So that’s what we did!
We opened a forty-two bed residential addiction recovery program/retreat that is overseen by a non-denominational Christian ministry. Some years we struggled, and some years we prospered. For nineteen years we continued to give the hopeless hope, and help save the lost from dying. Thousands of individuals and their families have been helped by this labor of love. When we started, my parents were in their sixties. A few years ago my mother went to be with the Lord, and my father is in his eighties now. As for me, I went from being a World-Champion weight lifter to being crippled and in a wheelchair about five years ago. Even today, we are still helping to save lives!
We could have given up, but where would Mark, or Kassidy, or Rory go? Where would all those who don’t have proper insurance and no family support go? The economy isn’t helping! Donations are way down because people don’t have the money they used to. Intakes are down for the same reason. The ministry survives month to month, one bill at a time. Sometimes this or that gets shut off until we can pay the bill. We are “All in.”
You can tell the success of a man or a ministry by the fruit they produce. I hope you get a chance to meet some of the wonderful and beautiful souls that we have helped over the years. Many have had an entire psychic change, changing the way that they live and think. You could say they are reborn! This truly is God’s grace, mercy, and compassion at work.
I’m willing to commit the rest of my years to sharing my knowledge, wisdom, experience, strength, and hope. So are the rest of the crew at the ministry. We need your financial help to continue. We’re not asking you to go “All in.” Unless, God should call you to do so.) We are asking you to commit to supporting the ministry’s efforts for today and the future. Tax-Deductable Donations can be sent to: New Beginning P.O. Box 328 Beach Lake, PA 18405. Thank You, and God bless you! New Beginning is a Federally recognized 501c3 Non-Profit Charitable Organization.
